About Gloria

My involvement in the visual arts extends over thirty five years.  I received my BFA in art and Masters degree in education from the University of Oklahoma.  I served as a secondary art teacher for 14 years in Oklahoma, developing a new visual arts program for grades 7-12 that I ultimately expanded to include the elementary grades.  Moving to San Antonio TX in 1988 I taught middle school art for 13 years, serving as Chair of the Fine Arts Department for 6 years.  While working as an art educator I taught a variety of media and techniques including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, print making, and metal design. In 2002 I was selected for the position of Visual Art Director for North East ISD, a large school district in San Antonio.  As Director I planned, organized, and implemented the setup of large student art exhibits as well as serve as juror for regional and state art competitions. I was honored with the award of Outstanding Art Educator/Supervisor by the Texas Art Education Association in 2006.  In 2014 I retired to pursue my own artistic interests.

Having taught in a wide range of media throughout my career, I am now focusing on acrylic abstract painting, mixed media, and collage.  My inspiration stems from the beauty of the Texas hill country and Oklahoma landscape where I now divide my time.  In my paintings I strive to create nonobjective abstract works of vibrant colors with layers, textures and shapes that pull the viewer into a world of emotions.  By incorporating different materials and techniques I invite my audience to explore new ways of approaching abstract paintings that appeal to your senses as well as your eyes.

Since retirement I have studied with Lyn Belisle at her studio in San Antonio, Gwen Fox in Taos, Ellen Rolli in Boston, and Michelle Belto from Bulverde, TX to name a few.  My work is shown in Oklahoma as well as Texas.
